Day seventy two - Malham to Horton in Ribblesdale

11th May.

The day started grey with rain forecast for later but it arrived sooner, in fact when I got to Malham Cove.

Malham Cove
A steep climb to the limestone pavement above the cove. Limestone pavement may be a rare site of special interest but it is a right pain to walk on.
Limestone pavement.
On to Malham Tarn and round past the field centre where I saw this:

A long climb up to Fountains Fell, the rain eased and the cloud lifted.
Not as cheap as a plastic tube.

There were some excellent views back towards Malham.
Down the other side and up the road before turning up the hill past Churn Milk Hole.
Churn Milk Hole

There is a very steep climb up to Pen y Ghent.
From the top the clouds over Ingleborough were impressive.
Unfortunately one of them dumped on me on the way down and by the time I reached the campsite both it and I were soggy.

15.5 miles walked 1000 meters ascent

Great pictures.
Really good to see that someone has put so much effort into protecting that beech tree.
You probably didn’t have a chance to see the rare plants in the limestone pavement if it’s quite a balancing act to cross!
Thanks J.
