Day one hundred and two - Cairnbaan to Loch Awe

10th June.

The day was very hot, humid and sunny but there was a bit of a breeze to make it bearable.

Crinan Canal
I walked down the canal and across the Moine Mhor, a huge area of raised bog, reminding me a bit of the Somerset levels but wild and undrained.

Kilmartin glen next where there are a great number of stone circles, standing stones, chambered cairns etc.
There are a couple of really good chambered cairns.
There is a new museum at Kilmartin but it hasn't opened yet (later this year) but the pub was open for lunch.
It was very tough walking in the heat and I went into the ruin of Carnasserie Castle more for the shade than the castle, no swallows only house martins.
On to Loch Awe and an excellent quiet road that winds along the hillside through the trees above the Loch.
Managed to find somewhere to pitch before the midges got to bad and was in bed when the thunderstorm arrived.

Aargh, you just went past Alison's house in Ford. I wish I'd known - could have sorted midge free accommodation for you!
