17th June.
Cloudy this morning but still very warm, little or no wind. There were seven people in the bothy, a group of four in one room and myself and Dave, a hill walker from Hill in the other. Until about 10pm when we were all getting to sleep when three more walked in, bothy life!
Slept fairly well despite everything and set off through the forest with Dave and plenty of insect company.Once clear of the trees, Dave went a different way, there was a slight breeze which helped a lot. A nice easy climb up to the pass then more steeply down past a couple of lovely lakes where I sat for a while looking at the view and watching a golden eagle circling the hills.Eventually Loch Nevis came into view.
It is a very rough steep path down this side and slow going but I reached Sourlies Bothy in the end.
The bothy was, unusually, deserted but had been left neat and tidy. I stopped for lunch.A walk along the beach took me to the River Carnach which I followed up to the new bridge, hard to imagine that the old one had been washed away a few years ago.A good track beside the river led to the bottom of Ben Aden and it then deteriorated into a rocky scramble until it was time to climb 300 pathless meters straight up the steep rocky hillside to find the path over Mam Unndalain that leads down to Barrisdale. There was no wind when I put up the tent and the midges were horrendous so once it was up ready for the night with everything zipped up to keep them out I escaped to the Bothy to cook dinner.
14.5 miles 1000 meters ascent.

It is no consolation but apparently this is a good year for midges,- if you are a midge!
