Day 9, Friday 2nd May.
Wet overnight with a cold north westerly wind in the morning. The hills were covered in cloud, but it wasn't long before it lifted above the tops.

Hay rack in the middle of nowhere |
As a change from the Hebridean Way I left most of my gear in the hostel and headed for the hills with a nice light pack. Unfortunately I hadn't gone far up towards the hills before my feet were wet again.

Looking back to the boggy bits |
It wasn't actually as boggy as a lot of the Hebridean Way and, once clear of the lower areas, was a fine, steepish climb on short heather and rock with only a few squelchy bits.

Hill views |
Three Golden Eagles appeared over the hill and were in view for a lot of the time, two of them involved in courtship manoeuvres.

The ridge to the summit |
The wind got progressively stronger the higher I went and I was forced to put on a hat and gloves for the first time this trip.

Looking south |
The view was magnificent from the top even though visibility wasn't brilliant. There was no sign of Skye but I could see as far as Barra and a good selection of islands to the south.

View from the top |
I had intended to go round the other tops in the area but by the time I had retraced the ridge against the very strong wind I decided that enough was enough and returned. the way I came.

Looking back |
It was the correct decision as some light drizzle blew through while I was wandering back to the hostel to light the stove and make a nice cup of tea.

He comes out when it's comfortable |
A good short day's walk up a beautiful hill with fascinating wildlife, perfect for a cold windy day.
12 miles walked, 900 meters ascent.
