Hebridean Way finish 05/05/25

 Day 12 Monday 5th May.

The wind died completely overnight and I woke to a dewy morning and a bright blue sky. Some cloud developed later but the wind stayed light and although the temperature wasn't high it was a very pleasant day.
Community garden

I retraced my steps from yesterday back to the community café and garden only to be told that they don't open until 11am on Mondays. I did get a cup of coffee though.
Barra Airport

Back on the road round towards the Airport, really the beach, before climbing over the first hill. I missed seeing the plane take off and was only able to watch as it flew off to Glasgow.
What can I say!

I did see two birds that I had hoped for today, a White tailed Eagle and a Corncrake. Well I didn't actually see the Corncrake but I heard it!
West coast

After going over the second hill I arrived at the west coast and a short road walk took me past a hotel that again wasn't doing food but they did provide tea and a lovely piece of chocolate cake.
View to the south

Wonderful views as I climbed the third and biggest hill, The wide Atlantic Ocean behind me, next stop Newfoundland, and the island of Vatersay ahead with more southerly islands beyond.
Causeway to Vatersay

Across the causeway and I was on Vatersay. A couple of miles on the road and there was the sign for the start / finish of the Hebridean Way.
Hebridean Way finished

I had hoped to get some water here but the cafe was shut and there is no outside tap. There were a couple of campervans parked nearby so I asked one of them if he could spare some water. He not only gave me water but a bottle of beer to celebrate completing the Hebridean Way.
Is this the perfect camp?

A bottle of beer to watch the sun going down over the Atlantic, from an idyllic camp on the dunes, thank you very much unknown benefactor.

17 miles walked 850 meters ascent
