Day one hundred and twenty six - Durness to Strabeg

 3rd July.

Heavy rain overnight had stopped by morning but then showers developed, becoming continuous by mid afternoon.

Another short day so no rush to get going. Spent sometime talking to an ex army guy who is walking the coast anitclockwise, he started in Scarborough at the beginning of January.

Along the road and over Smoo Cave, I have been to the cave before, it's quite impressive,  but couldn't find the enthusiasm to visit again on this grey morning.

Turned up the hill on a good track with some excellent views through the mist to the coast.
The track stops at the top and I had to find my own route down the hillside back to the road.
This road is on the NC 500 route but had little traffic other than a mobile home every five minutes.
On down the road and there was a sign, 'Café 1 mile' I was hopeful but didn't get too excited until I actually saw it!
A nice little café and gift shop, excellent carrot cake.
The scenery is wonderful around Loch Eriboll and Strath Beag, where I was heading, looking particularly good.
Plenty of water about now!
The track up the bothy was partly underwater   with an interesting burn to cross.
Another good bothy with two people from Glasgow already there, Billy. who had come by car and was doing Munros and Derek, on a bike tour of Scotland.

12 miles walked 400 meters ascent.
