Te Araroa 6/11/25

Rest day at Taumarunui. (1072)

A bright sunny day which felt very hot in the afternoon when we were in the town.

Off for the shhopping
There was a briefing in the morning where we were told about the hazards of the river and how to minimize them with correct canoe handling and shown some videos of some common mistakes and how to avoid them.
The river we will be canoeing
A walk to town then to do the washing and buy supplies for the next week's walking as well as more stuff for the following week's canoe trip. We got another lift back to the camp where all the food was packed into barrels that will be taken down to Whakahoro with the canoes ready for us to start the river trip.
Outside the closed rail museum
We now have a sixth member of the group, Sean from France, another TA walker who arrived today and will be walking and canoeing with us for the next couple of weeks.
Organizing barrels of food
A good day of eating, organizing and booking campsites. I am now organized for the next fortnight, just have to do it now!
Sunset over the camp
