Te Araroa 7/10/25

Day 13, Whakapara to Nugunguru.

A dry start but there was a heavy rain shower mid morning then windy and threatening for the rest of the walk.

Whakapara footbridge
The first bit was to cross the estuary on the longest footbridge in the southern hemisphere, the tide was high and it was a lovely walk.
Beaches
Onto the coastal walk then which is another great track that swoops over the hills along the coast revealing little bays and inlets with some very exclusive houses.
Expensive houses
All too soon I was dumped onto a tarmac road for a while, climbing over the hill in the pouring rain, before turning onto a gravel road again and then the Old Coach Road to Nugunguru.
Rocky cove
The first part of the coach road was a lovely little track and I met up with Charlie and Ruby again for the final road bit to Nugunguru which has a good cafe and shop.

Along then to the ferry crossing to a beautiful campsite by the estuary, really good showers and an excellent cooking/eating area. Just the three of us here tonight.

Another perfect campsite
