Bilbao

4th June 

 A day in Bilbao before the GR11 start tomorrow. 

Sunshine all day with a breeze to keep the temperature down. I will have to get used to it. 

The parts of the city that I saw were amazing. The regeneration of the riverside has been developed after a severe flood in 1983 that wiped out a lot of the old quays and buildings. 

The artworks and buildings are incredible, the Guggenheim museum, amazingly, blends in with it's surroundings. 

The art in the museum was interesting but the objects that stood out for me were a group of massive steel plate sculptures by Richard Serra entitled 'The Matter Of Time'

There is also a fascinating Maritime Museum highlighting the marine heritage of Bilbao. 

A great place, I would love to come back.
