GR11 Day 6, Burguete to Gorda de Xio

10th June

Felt like another Scottish day, dark clouds, windy and not very warm. At least it wasn't raining.

Burguete
A gentler climb up to start the morning today,  Burguete is at nearly 3000feet. Red squirrels in the woods as well.

Caught up with a girl from the Czech Republic who spoke good English and walked with her for a while.
I had to walk between them as they didn't move
Stopped for coffee at Orbara, a tiny place with not much more than the bar-retaurant and a church.
Orbara
The next bit was over the hill to Hirriberri where there was nothing but a farm next to the church, cobbled streets and a couple of houses, the whole place smelling of dung!
Looking back to Hirriberri
A steep climb up to and around the limestone cliffs of Berrendi and then through a long section of woodland with thick wet undergrowth, at this stage I was in the cloud.
Wet woodland
Emerging from the trees the trail runs for several miles on a good track along a high ridge (1300m) I'm sure there would have been some great views if I could have seen anything.
A bit cloudy
After crossing a high road over the hill (1368m) the trail climbs to the highest point so far at 1492m, higher than Ben Nevis!
Coming down
There were some huge sink holes just visible in the mist as I headed down out of the wind and wet cloud to find a suitable place to camp.
Found a reasonable spot sheltered by bushes and not far from a water source.
