Te Araroa 7/11/25

Day 41, Taumarunui to Owhango (1094)

Another misty morning that soon cleared to a bright sunny day.

Starting off
A cup of coffee at Taumarunui canoe hire went down well while we waited for the tents to dry and then we were off.
Lovely morning
All road walking today although most of it was on a good gravel road with almost no traffic.
What a beautiful morning
It was a great walk with lots to look at including cows, calves, horses, ponies and an ostrich!
Wrong camera settings!
A number of derelict farms were interspersed with recent very smart buildings in some beautiful countryside as we climbed up to the watershed.
The countryside is spectacular
The slight descent the other side was through more intensively farmed land before reaching the state highway at Owhango.
Abandoned farm building

Camping behind the old hotel
There is a very run down hotel at Owhango but they allow camping round the back, there was also an old cabin with electricity, a shower and kitchen that we were allowed to use for a donation.
In the cabin
There were bunks as well so we decided to use them and avoid wet tents in the morning.

Owen didn't appear at the campsite.
