Helmsley to Ingleby Cross

 9th September

Very hot day, bright sunshine with a few clouds giving some occasional relief.

Helmsley
Left Helmsley as it was getting light, no one moving in the hostel, but it was warm already.

There was some shade in the morning along  the leafy lanes A very pleasant walk as far as Cold Kirby, a pretty village that reminded me of the Cotswolds.
Cold Kirby
The temperature was climbing as I walked round the Yorkshire Gliding Club's airfield, not much activity as there was no wind and it was still to early for the thermals.
The path goes above the White Horse so you can't see it, but I did see it yesterday on my way to Helmsley.
A bit of the horses head
At the top of Sutton Bank there is a visitor centre with Café, scones, tea and water refills. Very useful. After a nicely wooded section along the edge, the trees retreated and the path was exposed to the full force of the sun.

Lunch time arrived at the same time as High Paradise Farm and café. There is a campsite here that was suggested to me by the Hostel warden as being a good place to end the first section of the walk. Too early, nice lunch though and water refills.

High Paradise Farm café
Fantastic views towards the Dales but just too hazy to see properly. It stayed 'scorchio' until Osmotherley, a proper Yorkshire tourist village where everyone was sitting outside the pubs enjoying the sunshine.

Osmotherley

The Village shop had ice-cream and a water refill before continuing to Ingleby Cross through some shady woods.
A great pub with camping in the field. Met a German couple walking the Coast to Coast who have a holiday cottage in Lybster.
The Blue Bell
More cloud this evening, hopefully not as hot tomorrow.

24 miles walked
1000 meters ascent
